Sealing the doors in your home
Winter is when people really start thinking about how they can winterize their homes. One big one is making sure that your homes entries are well sealed. Weather stripping is common to use around your doors and windows to help cut back on drafts. If your door is out of square or has been warped due to time, full door frame replacement may be your best option to help save on heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer.
First step into sealing the doors if weather stripping is not sealing off the drafts is to remove the trim around your door. This will allow you to see if between the home and the door frame is fully sealed. If there are openings you can up expanding foam to fills the gaps as well as caulking. Once you are satisfied with the sealing you can add your trim back.
Around the door may have gaps when it is closed. Your door may be out of alignment and can be fixed with a couple adjustments of the hinges. Your other option may be to add more weather stripping around the seal of the door. Closing out any light you may see coming through.
