It is 2023 and 3 years ago everything changed in the work field. Many folks forced to work from home while we all social distanced. People had to become creative on their work spaces, many just taking up dining tables; working from the couch or bed. The lucky few had a dedicated home office. The third year out and many jobs have been permanently moved to work from home positions. What can you do for a home office if you don’t have the extra space?
One recent build we did, was turning a hallway closet into a functional home office. While inside the closet offered enough room to set up a couple monitors and file cabinets, the small door made using this space a little awkward. In addition the door being open sticking out into the hallway made getting by the working adult difficult.
We started by removing the door and opening the doorway up to the studs on the end, this provided the max amount of available work space and having access to the whole width of the closet. The customer wanted to do bi-folding accordion doors so that they did not stick out into the hallway. We took that an extra step and made custom bi-folding barn doors. This allowed us to create an opening as large as the framework would allow, and then built the doors to fit that opening. As well as having a contemporary door to close the office up when not in use is an added bonus.
We also ran an outlet inside of the closet so that the customer could directly plug into the closet instead of finding the closest outlet around.
Now the customer has a small office that doesn’t take up a whole room in their home, but yet still functional to be a productive workspace. If you have a small area that you want to turn into a practical home office or have other ideas, let us know! We would love to make your vision a reality!
