Remodels and new home construction sends a lot of dust and debris through the air, and the process can create a large amount of clutter on a job site. I have high standards for my crews companies when it comes to cleaning throughout the day vs putting it off until the end of a job. There are a number of reasons why a clean construction site matters and hopefully makes us stand out from other companies.
Safety First
My crew’s safety is top priority during any job. By maintaining a clean job site we reduce the risk of injuries at work. When debris, materials and tools become scattered or build up at the job site, the risk of one of crew members getting injured increase. It’s far too
easy to trip over obstacles when you least expect it and fall onto or off of dangerous surfaces or objects. Keeping the work area clean will help eliminate many causes of injury.
Tools aren’t cheap
A dirty and messy job site can harm your equipment. Unseen debris can lead to user error during machine operation, and having to replace a large piece of equipment in the middle of a job can really hurt the company financially. Not to mention the uncomfortable conversation with your supervisor regarding why the error took place and how it could have been avoided.
Work smarter not harder
Safety is the primary contributor to the importance of a clean construction site, but keeping the work area tidy can also provide a boost to your efficiency. When your job site is a mess, it becomes more difficult for your employees to navigate the space and work quickly. Plus, big messes take a long time to clean if you wait until the job is finished. Incorporating job site cleaning into normal daily procedures will help your workers stay on top of the mess so they can work faster every day.
Customers notice
The customers first impression of your capabilities and skill will come from how clean you keep your work site. When things are kept out of order it will raise eyebrows and cause areas of concern… and for good reason! Maintaining good appearances could be the key to having a repeat customer and smooth project with little hiccups along the way.
