I have been given the opportunity to move positions from farm intern to project manager for DC and H Construction. For the past few weeks since I have taken the position, I have built up a full pipeline, gone on appointment’s, and have a job that is soon to start with a few more on the horizon. Most of the work that I have done and will continue to do is excavation jobs such as pond work and ditch cleaning. Majority of my appointment’s deal with excavator and skid steer work which is what I enjoy doing. Along with that I have a handful of other jobs dealing with deck building, generator installing, and culvert installing.
What I have learned so far is the importance of time management so you don’t let yourself and the customer down. Taking advantage of my calendar has become helpful to know when project are starting, what days I’m busy working, and what days are available to set appointments. It is easy to get overwhelmed by taking incoming calls and setting appointment’s trying to make everything work out. using a calendar and note pad has helped me put everything in front of me and check things off when they get completed. So fare I am enjoying this opportunity and look froward to what the future has instore for me in construction.
In the book Fanatical Prospection, I am reading through the five steps of prospecting frame work. I have learned that it is important to build the bridge/close the gap between you and the customer. A customer may have no interest in what I have to offer until I hear their wants and connect those wants with service’s I can offer to fulfil them. I want to be on the same page as my customer and make their vision come to fruition through my work.
