As I wrap up my pool related posts, let’s discuss applying a coating to your deck that will help maintain your cement decking as well as give some much needed relief for those hot days. Here are some reasons you may want to apply a deck treatment around your pool.
- Reduction in heat buildup by up to 35% on concrete. Very beneficial on those 100+ degrees days
- It can be tinted, add a gallon of paint in your color choice to the 5 gallon bucket.
- It is stronger than the concrete to which it is applied. Added benefit of extending the life of your concrete.
- It can be applied to new or old concrete.
- It can be applied quickly
- You don’t need to hire a professional. It’s very easy to apply.
- Slip-resistance, even when it’s wet.
- Option to apply as a textured roll-on, or a knock-down finish.
- Some products have a lifetime warranty.
- Some can be applied over an existing coating
As with anything there are limitations. Much will depend on which product you use.
- Some products are only available in a few colors.
- Depending on the product it may need to be applied to new concrete only.
- Cannot be applied over existing finishes, it must be completely removed
- Some have no warranty.
