North Texas has definitely had its full of hail this past week. Some of the hail pictures are almost unbelievable in nature. Nature is truly fascinating and dangerous at the same time. Hail storms can pop up fast and without warning. Here are a few suggestions to help minimize damage and keep you safe in the even of another Texas size hail storm.
Trim trees regularly
Hail can easily crack branches and cause them to fall on your home during a storm. Remove obvious branches that could land on the roof (no matter how strong), as well as weak branches already cracking.
Repair roof damage
Before storms even occur, inspect your roof for damage and repair issues right away. Even problems that seem minor right now, like a broken shingle, can make your roof more vulnerable in a hailstorm.
Store large outdoor furniture and accessories in enclosed space
Large patio furniture and even some outdoor decor can damage your home’s exterior if the wind picks up. Store items like these in an enclosed space. Along with protecting your car, shelter also protects your favorite outdoor belongings.
Close drapes and blinds
Hail can hit your windows and cause the glass to break. If it does, it’s important you have your drapes closed to block some of the debris the wind carries into your home. The thicker the drapes, the better.
Secure your trampoline
We see pictures all over Facebook of trampolines that go flying down the street. You can easily secure the trampoline into the ground with a few sticks of rebar to bend over the braces and lodge into the ground. It may not fully prevent it from moving but it will help keep it from going completely airborne.
