With the continued growth we are seeing all over the metroplex we are also seeing a higher need and demand for drainage. Many builders are putting houses next to each other with gutters facing each with limited slopes. Luckily all the standing, pooling water can easily be diverted with French drains.
Depending on how large the area and amount of drainage required there are a couple different options.
For a more extreme situations a sump pump capsule be used. Installing a holding tank which looks similar to a five gallon bucket a pump is hardwired in and set to automatically turn on to get the water out of there.
For a simpler system a ditch will be dug with a one one inch downward slope away from the holding area. Backfilling it with landscape cloth to prevent roots from penetrating the system, gravel for added support and drainage then piping to carry the water away.
The decision to made before doing anything is where will the drain begin, one way is to attack it directly to each gutter or one drain in the lowest area to allow water to flow out as needed. Either way a French drain can keep your yard from becoming and staying a mud but while allowing the grass and yard to get the much needed water it needs in our hot summers.
