Todays topic is fireplaces. With the holidays approaching so many of us will want that picture perfect fireplace for Santa to enter our homes from. Here is a simple way to give your dates fireplace a quick and easy facelift and to be Santa ready. Painting your fireplace can transform the entire look of the fireplace as well as the entire room. As with any painting job tape and protect areas you don’t want to get painted suck as floors and adjoining walls. Let’s begin
1. CLEAN THE BRICK
The first step in the process is cleaning the surface of the brick. You will want to make sure it’s free of any dust or dirt before you start painting. You can use a damp rag to wipe it down and clean off any dust. I was supervised at the amount of tiny little spider webs I found. You can also use a wire brush and heavy duty cleaner if your fireplace is really dirty.
2. PRIME THE BRICK
Next up: Primer! This is the most important step in the entire process. I suggest a primer, sealer, and stain blocker all in one. Get a primer that is highly pigmented, so there is excellent coverage over the brick and grout lines.
Use a roller for the large areas and a brush for the tight spots.
3. PAINT THE BRICK
Depending on the color you’re going with this may only require one coat. Make sure you are using the correct type of paint also. Something specific to bricks, mason or stucco. The cans labels will give you plenty of information as well as any associate at the local paint store or where you decide to get your paint.
