In the past some of my previous blogs have been construction related. Today is going to be more of a personal note.
As a general contractor we can never do all of the work ourselves, as much as we may want to get in there and get it done, we just can’t do it. Not everyone has the skills, knowledge, tools, or the ability to do everything. This is when we hire some people to help us and we don’t always make those choices right.
We’ve all heard stories about the bad contractor, don’t hire this guy, don’t hire that guy. We has general contractors run to the same issues, we hire people to help us get jobs completed for you. We also fall prey to the same issues. The differences we strive to make is being accountable for those subcontractors and taking ownership of every single mistake.
I am currently in that situation. I had had someone to do some work and not all of it was done as it should’ve been. I can make excuses on why I wasn’t there but that doesn’t fix the problem and that doesn’t excuse the work now being done. It’s been very frustrating and very costly to go back and fix these mistakes. The important thing though is the mistakes are being corrected. Some projects and I’m taking a little bit longer but at the end of the day we are going to communicate to you what the problem is and more importantly what we’re doing to correct it. It has been very fortunate on our part that our customers have been very patient with us and we attribute it to our communication with them. Too many times a contractor may not want to face the problems and that’s when we hear of people getting ghosted. When dealing with anyone in life you want to make sure they have the intestinal fortitude immaturity to face problems and not run away from them. That is what we do, that is who we are, and that is the best course of action when dealing with problems and troubles on the job.
